REFLECTION:

Experience:
Designing a new typeface from existing letterforms proved to be a particularly engaging task, allowing me to transform designs into unique fonts. As I developed a full typeface using Illustrator and Fontlab, the importance of consistency across all characters became evident. This journey in typography started with grasping fundamental concepts like typographic hierarchy, spacing, and alignment, which built a solid foundation for my skills. Additionally, creating mockups to see how the typeface looked in various practical scenarios provided valuable insights, enhancing my ability to present my design effectively. Overall, the process has been both a challenging and gratifying experience.

Observations:
Through my work, I found that t
he design process in typography blends creativity with technical skills. Understanding typography basics is crucial, along with using tools like Illustrator and Fontlab effectively. Small adjustments in spacing, weight, and alignment can greatly impact a typeface’s appearance and readability. Ensuring consistency across characters is essential for harmony, and creating mockups helps evaluate how the typeface performs in various contexts.

Findings:
Through these activities, I improved both my creative and technical skills. I developed a clearer grasp of how type interacts with images, which enabled me to craft more unified and effective designs. This semester marked a notable progress in my typographic abilities and overall design awareness.
